若獅子 Wakashishi Japanese Chisels (Set of 5) - SOLD
Here is a great opportunity to get into Japanese tools. Some of the best steel available in the world is made in Japan and this is no exception. This is a great “starter” set before delving into the custom and rarer makes available. The beauty of the steel is that it is a high carbon steel. The rockwell hardness tends to be around 58-61 or so. Much harder than the usual “western” steels available on the market.
The edge these chisels take are fantastic and are a joy to use. Whether you use them with a hammer or just by hand, you won’t struggle to cut. These are also made with laminated steel which is a technique going back to making katanas. This allows for multiple types of steels to be used to make a tool (or knife) rather than the commonly found monosteels of the Western world. This allows for having the harder carbon steel to be in the right places and balanced with the softer steels to ensure the tool is not too brittle while taking on a very sharp edge.
These chisels are sharp and ready to use, but can use a little bit of clean up. We can take care of this for a fee if you are interested, but we recommend you sharpen them yourself and get to know your new chisels. Shipping is available if needed or pickup in person at the shop.
This set of five (5) will give you a good starting point of Japanese tools. And trust us, it won’t be your last! We have grown to love Japanese steel and it is fun to collect tools and knives.
